What is faith?

“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen,” quoted from Hebrews 11:1. In simple terms, faith is to have strong and complete trust and confidence. Faith does require a whole lot of effort yet minimal quantity is required, kinda paradoxical, I know! There is a popular quote that says, “belief is easy but faith takes discipline.” Whoever wrote that quote, was completely spot on!

How do you develop your faith in God, you may ask?

Whether you are seasoned or a newbie, faith can be a bit tedious. It tends to fluctuate based on external and internal factors. Our attitude, consistency and perception can either make or break our faith. It is combated against doubt, fear and unbelief. In order to withstand, it is imperative to maintain an intimate relationship with God through prayer, fasting, fellowship and reading His word.

Good fear, bad fear

Fear can be an unpleasant emotion that can often lead to worry, pain or threat. Fear doesn’t have to be associated with negativity. There is also good fear, the fear of the Lord. There are quite a few scriptures that speak to the fear of the Lord, which gives us great hope in Him. I’d love to share two that truly resonates with me. Proverbs 16:4, “In the fear of the Lord, there is strong confidence and His children will have refuge.” Also, Isaiah 33:6 reads, “And He will be the stability of your times, a wealth of salvation, wisdom and knowledge; The fear of the Lord is his treasure.”

Faith > Fear

There are so many things that can make us fearful; health, finance, career, relationships or just simply the unknown! It can have a huge impact on our mind, body and soul. Instead of being consumed with anxiety and tension, bad fear can bring. I encourage you to replace that fear with faith and the fear of the Lord. We have a great assurance and reliance on Christ. Let us strive to conquer our fears and phobias by having unwavering faith through God. In this season, I charge you to be faithful during the uncertainty. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go,” Joshua 1:9.

Let us continue striving to have a faith-filled and extraordinary life with Jesus Christ.
